Daniel Sumy or Summy

Daniel Sumy - Born: Sep 2, 1810, Westmorland, PA, Died: Oct 8, 1874 in Carroll County, IL. Married: Frances "Franny" Harshberger (Born: Mar 10, 1809, Died: Sep 9, 1859).

Son of: Michael Summy

Daniel and Franny Sumy had 8 children. He moved to Jo Daviess County, IL. Conflicting records indicate that in the 1860 census he is listed as a Cooper in Donegal Township, Westmorland County, PA, and in Carrill County, IL. (still researching). It is possible that the Westmorland County, PA census we have record of should actually be 1850.

Abraham Summy of Kecksburg, PA said in 1889 that Daniel had three sons, one of which died in the "late war", the Civil War. He deeded his PA land to his son, Christian for taking care of him and his wife in their old age. All of their children except #8 (Emily) were born in Westmorland County, PA.

Dwight Summy Jr has a small photo of Daniel and Franny's gravestone near Nora or Warren, IL.
