Michael Summy - Born: about 1761, Lancaster PA, Died: about 1822, Somerset County, PA.

Michael Summy had 7 children, 4 from his first marriage and 3 from his second. He is found in each census between 1790 and 1820. His first marriage to (Miss) Gilmore (4 children) was in about 1794, but census records only give age ranges and the number of males and females in the family. The 1800 census shown no females in the family, interpreted as between marriages. No reason for the end of the first marriage is given, however it is known that (Miss) Gilmore died prior to the 1800 census, so perhaps this is the reason for the end of the marriage.

Michael's marriage to Annie Ferry must have occured in the first few years of the 1800's. A statement by a Rev. Abraham Summy of Kecksburg, PA. in 1889 stated that his father "Christian" (Michael's grandchild) was only 13 when Michael died, placing Michael's death around 1822.

All 4 of his children from his first marriage were born in Somerset, PA, as were the first 2 of his children from his second marriage.

Dwight Summy Jr has a very small copy of a painting of Michael taken later in his life showing a shoulder length white bearded man with a receding hairline, very much like pictures of pioneers, or perhaps like General Geo. Custer.
